School Visits

Afropedia has had the opportunity to visit different African Student Associations (ASA) and Black Student Unions (BSU) from April to June of 2019. This was a great opportunity to partner and register different black student led organizations. The Afropedia team was able to visit 5 colleges and universities within the state of Washington while establishing ourselves and getting closer to the people we serve.

Umoja Festival

Umoja Festival Celebrates the best of the African American community and African Diaspora culture in the northwest featuring Music, food, culture and family.

Afropedia attended and presented their programs on August 2019. Afropedia had its own booth for the sole purpose of making people aware of the values that we are delivering in the community. The event is known to bring together hundreds of black people in one place.

Afropedia was able to distribute multiple pamphlets to our members of the community.

Afro Soirée

Afropedia hosted their launch party called the Afro Soirée in September 2019.

We invited all of the Afropedia mentors and mentees, in an attempt to make a first introduction among them and further discuss the mission and vision of Afropedia. Not only we wanted to make people aware of our existence but we also took the opportunity to provide a networking opportunity for both our students in colleges and Universities and our black professionals coming from various industries.

Afro Soirée had about 150 participants majority our young black students in colleges and universities, as well as young professionals and small businesses.

Census

As a youth led organization, we have an obligation to encourage participation and educate our fellow young people to respond to their civic duties. We joined the Census Alliance in partnership with the Washington State Coalition of African Communities Leaders to register hundreds of our students and educate them on how important being counted was beneficial for our communities.

Fighting through Covid Webinar

Fighting through Corona was our first partnership with Mother Africa. During the first outbreak of Covid, our communities were very vulnerable. Therefore, together with Mother Africa, we quickly had to come up with a way to educate our communities on safety measures to reduce the spread of the Virus within our communities. We invited the health care representative from King County.

Take a look at the Youtube video attached!

Voter Registration

Afropedia being one of the membering Organisations of the Washington State Coalition of African Community Leaders, we joined our hand with them (WSCACL) to register black people within the State Of Washington; specifically the young voters considering the fact that we are a youth led organisation. The VP of Afropedia led the Voter Registration Committee throughout the whole presidential election to educate and remind people to register to vote.
